To offer Merchant Presented QR payments to consumers, issuers need to connect their mobile wallet to Mastercard Send using the Mastercard QR APIs that are available here.
Issuers can also connect to Mastercard Send using a Mastercard Engage–qualified partner.
Merchant Presented QR is a push payment solution using QR (Quick Response) codes that allows small merchants to easily accept digital payments by removing traditional pain points and barriers associated with electronic payment acceptance. A push payment is a payment transaction characterized by a consumer-initiated payment (push) with a mobile device through a low-cost POI device.
Mastercard QR includes Mastercard Merchant Presented QR, formerly known as Masterpass QR.
Mastercard QR, a push payment that is initiated by consumers using their mobile device, is easy to implement with great benefits for issuers and acquirers.
- Issuers (Originating Institutions) are able to deploy Mastercard QR through their existing mobile banking app for easy onboarding that helps them strengthen customer relationships and increase revenue.
- Acquirers (Receiving Institutions) are able to simplify the sign-on process and decrease risk exposure to expand their merchant base and generate new revenue potential.
- The key benefits for a consumer are a simple non-cash alternative, greater protection and safety, and an easy-to-use payment solution.
